The Story

One of a designer’s greatest challenges (and often most rewarding) is taking two opposing styles and finding a way to marry them in one space. This project is such an example. The clients wanted to transform their contemporary condo into a space with a sophisticated coastal feel. To accomplish this task, we combined contemporary pieces with coastal elements in a deliberately thought-out balance. Fabrics, wall-coverings, and art add to the coastal feel.

As you enter the condo, the ocean-inspired art and textured wall-coverings in the elevator lobby and foyer set a coastal tone immediately, evoking water and warmth. Upon entering the main living space, you see the ocean spreading out in front of you. The living and dining areas are a study in layering neutral colors and textures with accents of antique brass, allowing the ocean view to be the hero. The space is both sophisticated and relaxed. In the master suite, whites and blues create a serene, coastal-inspired retreat, reflecting the ocean while maintaining a clean, contemporary feel.

As you move toward the intracoastal side of the condo, you pass the powder room. A navy blue vanity is paired with brushed brass fixtures and a mirror framed in shells. The hand-painted wall-covering brings in a soft, contemporary texture, keeping the room in perfect balance. In the intracoastal room, a wood slat wall on one side adds a distinctly contemporary feel to the space. This multi-use room contains a large sectional, a writing desk, and a small seating area we affectionately call the “tequila tasting” corner. In the back of the condo are two guest bedrooms. The VIP room uses blue, salmon, and white to create a luxurious yet approachable feel. A seating area looks out over the intracoastal waterway and tropical greenery. The back bedroom, with two queen beds, again uses blue, white, and neutral tones to create a warm and inviting space.
